In 2022, Jason Burr begins his eighth season as head coach of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer program in 2019 after taking over the program in 2014.
Burr has been a mainstay in the academic success of the women's soccer program since taking over the head coaching role. In the 2018-19 academic year, the Mastodons posted a 3.63 team GPA, the highest in program history. Burr coached two Academic All-Summit League selections in Gaby Romo (2016) and Lindsay Yankasky (2018). Yankasky was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and was a Purdue Fort Wayne Top 50 Student in 2018 and 2019. The Mastodons also earned the NCAA Division I Public Recognition Award for their multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) in 2019. They were the only team in the Summit League to earn the honor in 2019.
Under Burr, the Mastodons have scored three of the five fastest goals in program history. Paityn Fleming scored against Denver in 28 seconds in 2017, Gaby Romo scored against IUPUI in 34 seconds in 2016, and Kailyn Wade netted a goal in 1:23 against Valparaiso in 2018.
Burr has had several individual players make their marks on the program in his tenure. Kayla Wisniewski was a standout performer for Burr as a freshman in 2018. She scored eight goals, coming in fifth all-time in the program's single-season scoring. In 2017, Kallianne Mogler broke the career assist record, dishing out 14 over Burr's first four seasons with the Mastodons. Kiley Dunning went down as one of the best goalkeepers of the program's history, finishing fourth in saves and third in shutouts, despite missing the end of her senior season to injury. Dunning was 13th in Division I in saves per game as a senior.
Before taking over the helm at Purdue Fort Wayne, Jason was the head coach at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., where he directed the program from 2012-14. Prior to taking over the Benedictine program he was an assistant coach and later interim head coach at Northern Illinois University, where he helped lead the program to a record 13-match unbeaten streak. Also in his four years with the Huskies, he helped mentor Lindsey Curnock, who set the Mid-American Conference (MAC) career shutout record with 28.
A hallmark of each of his programs is Burr's promotion of a strong academic approach, evidenced by his Benedictine team earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award, in addition to the NSCAA College Ethics and Sportsmanship Award. At Northern Illinois, five players earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors, and the team had a 3.0 grade point average or better in seven consecutive semesters.
Burr spent the 2007 season at Arkansas State where he helped lead the program to a 50-point jump in the RPI over just one season while also tying for the third-most single-season victories in program history. He was an assistant coach at Illinois State during the 2006 season, advancing to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, as three of his recruits with the Cardinals ended their careers with at least one NSCAA All-Region honor.
He was the head men's and women's soccer coach at Thomas More College from 2003-2005, leading the Saints to a combined overall record of 42-9-6, helping the team to a 2005 President's Athletic Conference Championship, and a 2003 NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Burr was the men's soccer assistant coach at Western Kentucky University for the 2002 season.
A graduate of Austin Peay in 2001 with a degree in history, Burr holds a United States Soccer Federation National "B" License, and has also worked with the Northern Illinois Football Club (2010-12) and the Olympic Development Program (Region II) in DeKalb, Ill.
